The Cruise Itinerary
During the summers, the East Coast ships will be operated in the northeast. The vessels will be divided into two or more fleets. They will cruise between such major Great Lake cities as Duluth, Thunder Bay, Marquette, Sault-Sainte-Marie, Chicago, Milwaukee, Traverse City, Fort Michilimackinac, Bay City, Port Huron, Detroit/Windsor, Toledo, Cleveland, Erie, Buffalo, Burlington, Toronto, and Kingston, and such historic ports as Fort Niagara NY, Oswego, Montreal, Trois Rivieres, Quebec, Ile d’Orleans, Tadoussac, Saint-Pierre, Miquelon, Placentia, Saint John’s NFLD; Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Louisbourg, Halifax, Lunenburg, Shelburne, Yarmouth, Annapolis Royal NS, and Saint John NB in Canada; Castine, Camden, Boothbay, Bath/Saint George’s Fort, Portland, Portsmouth, Newburyport, Marblehead, Salem, Boston, Nantucket, Vineyard Haven, New Bedford, Block Island, Newport, Providence, Mystic, New London, Essex, New Haven, Huntington, New York City, Poughkeepsie, Kingston, Perth Amboy, Burlington, New Castle, Wilmington, Pennsbury, and Philadelphia.
In the spring and fall, the ships will spend time, divided into three fleets, in the Chesapeake Bay, the Carolinas, Georgia and Bermuda, visiting such historic places as Baltimore, Annapolis, London Town, Chestertown, Poplar Hill, Stratford Hall Plantation, Alexandria, Washington, Urbanna, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Yorktown, Jamestown, Shirley Plantation, Richmond, Ocracoke, Beaufort (N), Wilmington, Georgetown, Charleston, Beaufort (S), Savannah, Hamilton and Saint George.
During the winter, the OFFSHORE Squadron will cruise the Caribbean, visiting such historic ports as Paramaribo (Suriname), Georgetown (Guyana), Scarborough (Tobago), Bridgetown (Barbados), Carriacou and Saint George’s (Grenada), the Grenadines, Kingstown (Saint Vincent), The Pitons, Castries and Marigot Bay (Saint Lucia), Saint-Pierre, Fort de France and Diamond Rock (Martinique), Portsmouth (Dominica), the Iles des Saintes, Marie-Galante, Pointe-a-Pitre, and Basseterre (Guadeloupe), English Harbour and Saint John’s (Antigua), some port in Montserrat, Charlestown (Nevis), Basseterre (Saint Kitts), Oranjestad (Sint Eustatius/Statia), Roadtown (Tortola), Charlotte Amalie (Saint Thomas), Christiansted (Saint Croix) and San Juan (Puerto Rico); on the homeward passage, the ships could visit Willemstad (Curacao), Cartagena (Colombia), Puertobelo (Panama), Corn Island (Nicaragua), Saint Andrew’s Island and Providence Island (Colombia), Roatan Island (Honduras), Saint George’s Cay (Belize), Port Royal/Kingston and Montego Bay (Jamaica), Havana (Cuba – if permitted by law), Tortuga and Cap Haitien (Haiti).
The INSHORE Squadron will cruise eastern Florida, the Bahamas, and the Gulf Coast, visiting Saint Augustine, Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Nassau (Bahamas), Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Key West, Tampa/Saint Petersburg, Pensacola, Mobile, Biloxi, Bay Saint-Louis, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Memphis, Galveston and Corpus Christi.
Obviously, political and military situations may rule out certain ports from time to time, as may volcanic eruptions (as in Montserrat).
Occasionally, it may be useful to take two of the ships on a re-creation of some historic long-distance voyage, such as the Batchelors Delight and her cruise from Panama to Isla Coco to the Galapagos Islands to Ecuador to Peru, to Easter Island, to Robinson Crusoe Island, and Chile, with possibly a crossing to New Zealand. Dampier’s voyage from Panama to various Pacific islands and on to explore the north coast of Australia, and then on to India would be another possibility.
When four reduced-size CLIPPER SHIPS are built, they are to cruise on the West Coast, with Colonial Navy’s home-port probably at San Francisco, visiting such ports as Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Prince Rupert, Port Hardy, Nootka/Gold River, Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle/Port Townsend, Aberdeen, South Bend, Portland/Astoria, Tillamook, Port Orford, Crescent City, Arcata/Eureka, New Albion, San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Santa Barbara, the Channel Islands, Santa Monica/Los Angeles/Long Beach, Santa Catalina Island, San Clemente Island, Dana Point, and San Diego; possibly also Ensenada, Bahia Tortugas, San Ignacio Lagoon, Cabo San Lucas, Guaymas, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, and Acapulco, Mexico
